Heard in the Halls: Many Facets of Fraud
/“So far I’ve been to a bunch of sessions! Monday I attended, ‘Making Lemonade from Lemons’ with Eric Feldman, I really enjoyed that. It was about having a monitor in audits or if you have an NPA, how to work with them and how monitors can be good things. I always look up my favorite speakers at ACFE events, like Eric, Mary Breslin and Bret Hood, so I’m looking forward to Bret’s session today on The Dark Triad.” — Beth Cross, CFE, Internal Audit Manager, Amentum
“This is my fourth year. It’s great to be back in person and see everyone. My co-workers are here with me who I haven’t seen in two years! I thought the session about having an independent monitor [5B: Making Lemonade from Lemons: How to Benefit from the Imposition of a Monitor] was a really informative session. It matches up really well with my work as a fraud investigator. I’m also going to be presenting Wednesday [SS22: How to Eliminate Uncertainty in Your Audits and Investigations]. It’s going to go over some fundamental building blocks of a solid audit.” — John Clabaugh, CFE, Investigative Consultant, Liberty Forensic Advisors
“We came in for the Women’s Networking session Sunday. We had been to the ACFE Women’s Summit in New York in March, and I really enjoyed meeting the different Regents and the same women from that event. I’m here to do a lot of networking so it was a great experience meeting some really interesting people that night. It was one of my highlights. I’ve also been following some of the sessions on AI. I feel like I need to stay present with what is happening in the industry so I have attended a few of those. There was one Monday with one of the professors from the University of Florida, Ivy. It was really interesting. We did a group study that was very engaging and she’ll be using the data for research!” — Lynn Smey, CFE, Director of Internal Audit, Amentum
“I definitely am excited for the opportunity to be here. I really feel like I am learning a lot. I’ve been meeting a lot of people from all over. It’s a great networking experience. I’m looking forward to a session today on how audits turn into fraud investigations [7F: When an Audit Turns Into a Fraud Investigation], and of course I am looking forward to the closing session Wednesday: the interview with the fraudster [Tom Hardin]. I think it’s so fascinating and it may be one of the best ways to learn.” — Shauna Ena, Real Estate Accountant, CBRE
