2024 James R. Baker Speaker of the Year Award: Michael Schidlow

Every year, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) recognizes exceptional individuals for their contributions to the fight against fraud. These remarkable professionals not only serve as an inspiration to others but also stand as pillars of integrity in their communities, and we are proud to honor them for their service. 

The James R. Baker Speaker of the Year Award is presented annually to honor an individual who has demonstrated the true spirit of leadership in communication, presentation and quality instruction. In 2008, the year of its inception, James Baker, CFE was posthumously presented with his namesake award and was recognized for his contribution to the education of fellow anti-fraud professionals as a faculty member for the ACFE. 

Michael Schidlow is the 2024 ACFE Baker Award winner. Schidlow is a compliance and risk management specialist with more than 15 years of experience in law, investigations, compliance, audit and consulting. He has held leadership roles with Bank of China, HSBC and Bank of America.  Schidlow’s primary practice area is in fraud and anti-money laundering, utilizing an integrated approach to compliance, information technology, cyber-security and internal ethics.  He holds the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential, is a licensed attorney and serves as a professor of criminal justice, cybersecurity and ethics.  

In addition to his professional achievements, Schidlow is known for his commitment to advancing the anti-fraud profession through education and mentorship. He has delivered numerous presentations and workshops that have equipped countless professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to combat fraud effectively. Schidlow's dedication to fostering a culture of integrity and transparency has made a significant impact on the industry, and his recognition as the 2024 ACFE Baker Award winner is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the fight against fraud.
